Crude Oil Theft: Abia NSCDC Parades Two Suspects, Impounds Exhibits

The Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abia State Command, Umuahia on Sunday arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in vandalism, theft of crude oil and other illegal dealings in petroleum products.

Parading the suspects before Press men at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia Today 24th April, 2024, the State Commandant – CC Usman Ishaq Alfadarai fdec MNIM MER said the suspects were arrested at Shell Well Head 26 Owaza, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State following an actionable intelligence.

Narrating how the suspects were apprehended, Commandant Alfadarai said “the arrest was made possible through a joint operation involving the NSCDC, DSS and Shell internal security operatives.

He disclosed that the successful arrest of the suspects who have been in their custody is considered a major breakthrough in their unreserved commitment to win the war against oil pipeline vandalism, Crude Oil theft and all forms of illegal dealings in petroleum products adding that the joint operation itself is a reflection of the healthy synergy existing among the security agencies in the State.

On interrogation the suspects gave their names as Samson Koki (25yrs) from Okoloba, Delta State and Zakari Yakubu (18yrs) from Zamfara.

The following Items recovered includes

One long blue hose pipe, About Fifty five (55) number of cellophane packs, containing products suspected to be crude oil.

The State Commandant lauded the gallantry and professionalism displayed by his Men in the successful coordination of the arrest which he said is in line with the directives of the Commandant General – CG Ahmed Abububakar Audi PhD mni OFR to sustain the onslaught against vandals and other economic saboteurs in the State.

He however seized the Opportunity to thank the general public for their confidence in the Corps as being demonstrated through the provision of timely information.

He called on those engaging in vandalism of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure and other criminal activities to turn a new leaf or be prepared to face the consequences of their actions.

CC Usman Ishaq further revealed that the Command has the Agro Rangers Unit whose function is to ensure safety and security while protecting Agro investments in the state.

The Commandant noted that upon arrival in Abia in 2024 he revived the Agro Rangers Unit adding that he has deployed them across the states to maintain high levels of surveillance in order to address herders/ farmers clashes especially at this farming season.

He also assures the synergy and a good working relationship between other security agencies in the state as well as the local vigilante groups.
