The Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Austin Meregini today revealed the success stories recorded so far by the 8th session of House from its inception to date.
Rt Hon. Meregini who also doubles as the Chairman, House Committee on Information and Publicity in a press briefing at the conference room of the Assembly Complex noted that the wonderful session also expedited action in ensuring that the 2024 appropriation bill presented recently by the Governor passed third reading before going on recess.
He further explained that 3 other bills have passed the third reading, 7 others currently at different stages of consideration while 20 motions were presented. The deputy Speaker noted that the bills passed include the Greater Aba Development Authority Law (GADA), the Abia State of Nigeria Local Government 2023 Appropriation Law for a Bye Law and the Abia State Appropriation Law of 2024 adding that they are all people oriented.
He further explained that there was no tussle in the 8th Assembly rather a little misunderstanding that bordered on power sharing within the political parties represented in the house stressing that the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended has been helpful in that regards.
On the aspect of carrying out oversight function, Rt Hon. Meregini said that the 24 members house has been dutiful and would not entertain anything less than the law to fast track the “help is here” agenda of Governor Alex Otti.
He also gave an assurance that a committee has been constituted to look into the soon to be inaugurated Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission next year as promised by the Governor Dr. Alex Otti.
The Deputy speaker Meregini thanked Abians and wished them a successful Christmas celebration and beautiful year to come.
