The Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwaobilo Ananaba, has congratulated the new leadership of Abia State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, for their emergence and for being inaugurated by the Governor of Abia State , Dr Alex Chioma Otti (OFR).
A release by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Elizabeth Onyeali, revealed that Sir Nwaobilo, made the commendation, during a courtesy call on him by the new Executive members of Persons with Disabilities in his office at Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, School Road Secretariat, Umuahia.
Sir, Ananaba, who described Governor Otti, as “an altruistic and results oriented ” leader, appreciated him for giving the Agency a pride of place and charged them to exhibit a high sense of responsibility in the discharge of their duties as well as carry everyone along.
He assured the Commission of the Ministry’s readiness to assist them at all times and channel their request to the appropriate quarters while wishing them well.Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the Abia State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr David Anyaele , who was overwhelmed with joy , said they came to introduce the new Executive members of the Commission who will run their affairs for four years.
He said they were inaugurated recently by Governor Otti, hence they deemed it necessary to visit the Commissioner to seek his fatherly blessings, guidance and support as well as request for the necessary enablement for the optimal performance of the Agency.
Anyaele, stated that more than four hundred thousand (400,000) Persons with Disabilities in Abia State lack infrastructural facilities and suffer stigmatization because of their condition.
He thanked Governor Otti while describing him ,”as a jinx breaker”. and pointed out that the bill for the ESTABLISHMENT OF ABIA STATE COMMISSION FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, has eluded them for more than twenty (20 ) years under the previous administrations,
Anyaele, stressed that the bill was sent to the Abia State House of Assembly in 2015, but was not assented then, adding that in October, 2022 it was assented to , but was not recognized while thanking God for the victory.
He used the opportunity to appreciate, Governor Otti for appointing Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, as Commissioner for Ministry of Sports and Youth Development as well as congratulated the Commissioner.Anyaele, pledged their unflinching support, loyalty and solidarity to the Governor Otti led administration in the State.
In his vote of thanks, the State Secretary, Albinism Association of Nigeria, Mrs Ijeoma Okonkwo, appreciated the Commissioner for the warm reception accorded them. She promised not to leave any stone unturned in the discharge of their duties.
The release also stated that management staff of the Ministry were in attendance during the visit.
