The State House of Assembly says it is optimistic that the days ahead will see an improved relationship between security agencies in the State and the public.
The Speaker, Rt Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa stated this while reporting progress at the House plenary on the interactive session they had with heads of security agencies in the state noted the commitments made to them and the people of the State by the security agencies and called for all hands to be on deck to avoid the unpalatable incident that happened recently.
Speaking under personal explanation, the member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Hon. Mathias Ume expressed his gratitude and those of his constituents to the Governor Dr Alex Otti and the Speaker and members of the state House of Assembly for the improved security situation currently experienced by his people as they can now go about their businesss and other economic and social activities without fear, molestation and kidnapping by men of the underworld.
Hon Umeh further noted that in addition to the calm security situation, his people have experienced, revealed that they have started witnessing massive rehabilitation of their roads especially the ongoing rehabilitation of the Lomara -Ngodo – Amuda – Umuaku road and called for its sustainance.
The House at plenary also took the second reading of H.A.B 13: The Abia State Homeland Security Agency Bill, 2024 sponsored by the Majority Leader and member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu and committed same to its joint Committees on Homeland Security, Boundaries and Judiciary for further legislative actions and to report back to the House.
According to the sponsor of the bill, Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu who said the bill which aimed at establishing the Abia State Homeland Security Agency to assist and support the federal law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order in the state, identifying and disarming unauthorized persons from bearing arms and other dangerous weapons as well as intelligence gathering if passed into law, called for the support of his colleagues towards its passage.
The House thereafter adjourned plenary to reconvene on Thursday 2nd May 2024.
