Speaker Emeruwa Commends Governor Otti’s Administration For Implementing ASHASC

The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly Rt. Hon Emmanuel Emeruwa has commended the Governor Dr Alex Otti’s administration for the implementation of the longed awaited Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission.

He says that the recent confirmation of the Chairman and members of the Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission as sent to them by the Governor, is a bold step towards the realization of the much talked about financial autonomy and Independence of the legislature in the state.

The Speaker, Chief Emmanuel Emeruwa who stated this while briefing journalists at the Assembly Complex said with the constitution of the Commission, the present administration in the state has been able to break the jinx for the law which was introduced into the House as a bill under the sixth Assembly, passed and accented to under the seventh Assembly but could not be implemented until under the current eighth Assembly and lauded the present administration for the political will to begin the implementation.

Speaker Emeruwa while appreciating his colleagues for their cooperation and unity of purpose, commended the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) in the state for their understanding while the issue lingered and assured that all issues surrounding the independence of the legislature as an arm of government in the state will gradually be sorted out.

The Deputy Speaker and Chairman House Committee on Information, Rt. Hon Augustine Meregini Okezie while speaking expressed optimism that the coming on board of the Commission has not only put Abia on the list of states that have commenced the implementation of the state legislative autonomy with a constituted membership, but will help to hasten the implementation of the financial aspect as contained in the law which will sustain industral harmony.

In his own Contribution, the Senior Special Adviser on Legislative Matters to the Governor, Hon. Luke Ukara described the Governor Dr Alex Otti as a man of his words who is desirous of ensuring order, hence the choice of members of the Commission and in keeping with his promise to the leadership of the House and commended the Speaker and his colleagues for their cooperation.

In conclusion, the Chairman, Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, Abia State Chapter, Comrade Sunday Kalu expressed gratitude to the Governor, Dr Alex Otti, the 8th Abia State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Chief Emmanuel Emeruwa and all concerned for their efforts in making the implementation of the legislative autonomy a reality and the called for steps to be taken urgently to address all other pending issues.
