Land Encroachment By Neighboring States: Abia Assembly Directs Committee On Boundary To Wade In, Urges Ministry of Women Affairs & State Emergency Management Agency To Reach Out To Fire Outbreak Victims in Umuahia

The Abia State House of Assembly on Tuesday mandated it’s Committee on Boundary and Security Matters to liaise with office of the Deputy Governor and Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to urgently find lasting solutions to an alleged Unauthorized encroachment of Uzonta Azumili farm land in Ukwa East LGA by Akwa Ibom State Government.

The directive followed a matter of Urgent Public Importance presented by Hon. Lewis Obianyi representing Ukwa East State constituency on what he tagged ‘Unauthorized encroachment’ of Uzonta Azumili land through an ongoing road construction by authorities of Akwa Ibom State.

Obianyi urged that an on-the-spot assessment should be carried out by the house committee while advising that they should interface with Akwa Ibom State Government for a proper investigations and possible documentation on the road construction to avert danger of land and boundary dispute in future.

He therefore prayed the House to intervene through its relevant Committees to avoid ceading some parts of Azumili Ndoki land to Akwa Ibom State if the road construction is allowed to continue.

After much deliberations, the Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa committed the motion to the House Committee on Boundary and Security Matters to investigate and revert back to the house for further legislative actions within two weeks.

In another development, The House passed a resolution mandating the Ministry of Women Affairs and the State Emergency Management Agency to bring succour to one Mr. Edwin Nwachukwu’s family and others who were recently affected in a Fire Outbreak in Umuahia.

This is sequel to a motion presented by the Chief Whip and member representing Umuahia South constituency, Emeka Obioma, Obioma pleaded that the house through its relevant committees to visit the scene of the fire outbreak for an on-the-spot assessment as well as expedite action in bringing the matter to the notice of the Executive.

The House was also placed on Notice, HAM 20: a Motion on the Need to Compel the NDDC to complete the long abandoned Road Projects in Ohafia LGA presented by Hon. Kalu Mba Nwoke representing Ohafia South constituency.

House adjourned its plenary to reconvene on today, Wednesday January 24th
