Abia Govt To Partner MOAU for Sustainable Business Standards Programme

The Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Abia state, Dr Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu has commended the team from Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, for their interest in partnering with the state for commencement of the Sustainable Business Standards Executive Programme which will enhance entrepreneurship capacity and human capital development for Ease of Doing Business in the state.

Dr Chimezie Ukaegbu made this remark when he received a delegation of academic scholars from the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, in his office recently.

He declared that the partnership will create the much needed local capacity to assimilate and unlock the global economic vision of the State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, who recently inaugurated the Economic Advisory Council, made up of renowned global economic players around the world.

The commissioner, who is equally a member of the Abia Global Economic Advisory Council, co- chaired by former CBN Governor, Emir Muhammad Sanusi and Ms Aruma Oteh, former World Bank Vice President and Treasurer, as a key advisory body, offering strategic insights and recommendations to guide the state’s economic and investment policies, further stated that, the state is poised to enhance innovative manpower, create and sustain the enabling environment that will attract investment for sustainable development and provide employment opportunities.

Dr. Ukaegbu emphasized that the programme will supercharge the reality of modern business techniques, as government is working assiduously to improve ease of doing business in the state.He noted that the goal of Abia state Government, led by Gov. Alex Otti, is to nurture a sustainable business ecosystem conducive for entrepreneurship where investors, innovators, managers and technology will seamlessly and safely transact.

Speaking earlier, the Director of Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Prof. Kenneth C. Ekwe commended Gov. Alex Otti, for his innovative leadership module driven by dedicated lieutenants who share in his vision of a new Abia and acknowledged the joint efforts of Government and the University Centre in making the programme a reality.

He stated that the Specialized Executive Programme was streamlined last year to scale up the unique enterpreneurial skills and capacity of business owners, entrepreneurs, managers, directors both in public and private sectors of the economy. Prof. Ekwe, also highlighted that the Abia Sustainable Business Standards Executive Programme – Track One, will educate participants on global business opportunities and best practices in innovations, practical tools and strategic management that comes with the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

He also stated that the programme will serve as a practical application to sensitize participants on Business Ethics and Quality Standards, Grievance Redress Mechanism, Workplace and Environmental Safety Standards, as well as Responsibilities of Businesses to Sustainable Development in the state.

Also Speaking, the coordinator of Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, Dr Samuel Ogbe, enumerated some of the objectives of the Abia Sustainable Business Standards Executive Programme which he said will create a conducive business environment, create a better understanding on the need for tax payment which is paramount for the growth and development of the state.

He also added that the workshop highlight the importance/compliance with ethical and quality safety standards.Also it will outline the effects of online business sustainability and provide necessary preventive actions to cyber-attack and related cyber-crime.
