The member representing Osisioma Ngwa North State constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Iheanocho Nwogu on Tuesday drew the attention of the house on what he called incessant occurrence of accident at Aba-Owerri Road within the axis of Abia State Polytechnic Aba.
Iheanacho who brought the matter of urgent public importance during plenary described motorists of being reckless around the school axis and warned that it must be checked to avert future reoccurrence.
Hon. Nwogu also used the medium to draw the attention of the House on the deplorable/dilapidated condition of the Osisioma Campus’ Permanent site of the Abia State Polytechnic and prayed the House to resolve as follows;
That the House should as a matter of urgency pay a condolence visit to the bereaved family of Miss Ogechi Mery Ezekile prior to burial date as schedule to hold on Thursday 18th April, 2024.
That the House should direct that students should be relocated/moved to the Osisioma campus/permanent site of Abia State Polytechnic Aba
Also, That the House Committee on Education should as a matter of urgency invite the leadership of Abia State Polytechnic to ascertain the cause of delay in completing the work at that site.
He further asked that The State Government and the leadership of Abia Polytechnic should liaise with the leadership of Imo State University, College of Engineering that shares boundary with them and see how security can be improved in that place and immediately commence perimeter fencing around the property to secure it from further vandalization and other possible vices.
He urged That the relevant house committee of housing should invite the contractors working in that campus and access the level of work done in that permanent site and urge them to return to sight for completion of the work assigned to them.
The Motion was committed to the House Committee on Education to carry out an on the spot assessment of the Abia Poly and report back to the House in 2 weeks for further legislative actions.

The consideration of H.A.B 10 – Abia State Cocoa Development and Marketing Board Bill, 2024 sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie was stepped down and deferred to the next sitting while the house adjourned to reconvene today Wednesday April 17, 2024 by 10:00am.
