Anglican Diocese Of Umuahia Abolishes Obnoxious Widowhood Practices

…As 2024 Synod Ends

The Anglican Diocese of Umuahia has abolished all forms of widowhood practices which include shaving of hair, wearing mourning clothes, sleeping with the dead and abstinence from church service before funeral among others.

This was contained in a resolution adopted and signed by the Bishop Rt Rev’d Dr Geoffrey Ibeabuchi during the first Session of the Eleventh Syond held at All Saints Anglican Church World Bank Housing Estate Umuahia.

The Synod also resolved that the Diocese will henceforth identify with Anglicans during burials despite his or her financial status emphasising that it will serve as an encouragement to the living.

The Synod went further to include that Memorial Service should serve as family thanksgiving and optional while unveiling of tomb is granted, adding that avoidance of some market days during burials is no longer accepted.

Concluding the Synod stated that the 2024 theme “Sitting at the feet of Jesus,the right choice”brings restitution, reparation and opens an atmosphere for inspiration and blessings from God to flow,adviced all Christians to crave for the feet of Jesus and maximize all opportunities.
