Give Umunneochi Roads An Attention – Abia Assembly Tells Works Commissioner

The Abia State House of Assembly has mandated the Commissioner of Works in Abia State to carry out a palliative job on Umunneochi roads which had caused huge damage and nightmare to the people.

This directive followed a Motion which was presented by the member representing Umunneochi State Constituency Hon. Ume Mathias On the urgent need for the rehabilitation and construction of roads in Umunneochi LGA.

According to Mathias who Stated as follows that “Umunneochi Local Government is the only strategically located LGA in the state and, that is to say that Umunneochi is the only local government in the state that shares boarders with the other four states of the South East, that is, Imo, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi states and”.

He also noted that The good citizens of the Local Government need motorable roads in order to, first, link up mostly with their commercial neighbours of Okigwe in Imo States, Ogwu in Enugu States, Umunze in Anambra and Isiagu in Ebonyi State adding that the people need and deserve both inter and intra community accessibility, including access to the Local Government Headquarter Nkwoagu.

The lawmaker lamented that due to the hike in prizes of transportation which automatically triggers hike in prizes of local commodities within the communities in his constituency, aged women trek from Nneato to Orie Ngodo, Chieze to Orie Ngodo to Eke Isuochi to Afor Umuaku, etc thereby forcing the modern market woman back to the pre-modal age when there was no modern government.

He stressed that the felled spots also serve as hot spots for kidnapping incidents, stating that the recorded deaths occasioned by vehicles, motorcycles and hoodlums on the felled spots of the roads is on the high side.

He therefore Urged that the House mandate the commissioner for works, to as a matter of urgency, investigate the portion of Leru- Lomara –Nneato road being destroyed by gully erosion with the view to embarking on measures to prevent the total failure of that road.

He also asked that the House do mandate the commissioner for works to immediately embark on rehabilitation of the dilapidated roads in Umunneochi which includes:
The Lomara- Ngodo-Amuda- Umuaku road
The Leru- Ndiawa- Nkwoagu road
Amuda-Mbala road and which according to him will save the Umunneochi people from untold hardship.

In another development, the House also mandated its committee on lands to investigate the encroachment and vandalisation of the Abia State Liaison Office in Enugu State.

The house was responding to the Motion for the Revitalization of the Moribund Abia State Liaison Office located at No: 2 Rangers Avenue Independence Layout, Enugu (H. A. M – 14) sponsored by Hon. Isienyi Boniface.

While presenting the motion, Hon. Isienyi Boniface who is representing Ikwuano State Constituency at the Assembly explained that his recent investigations revealed that the liaison office has been vandalized and part of the building used as a table water company.

He prayed the House to invite the Commissioner for Lands and Housing to its Executive session to know the status of the present ownership of the building.

The House during plenary also recieved 4 petitions which were presented by the Chairman on Public Petitions, Hon. Anderson Akaliro. The Petitions were committed to the House Committees on Public Petitions and Health who were given 14 days to work and revert back to the house for further legislative actions.
