Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has announced plans to revolutionise the state’s healthcare system by providing top-notch medical services to all it’s citizens in the state.
Governor Otti ably represented by his Deputy, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu, made this declaration at the launch of the Nigeria Solar for Health Project and the inauguration of the project’s Steering Committee.
Emetu stated that the project aims to provide 24-hour power supply to at least 20 healthcare facilities in Abia State, ensuring uninterrupted medical services emphasizing that the initiative aligns with the state’s developmental agenda and integrated program for excellence in healthcare.
“We want to make quality healthcare affordable for all Abia residents, regardless of their location,” he stated.
He expressed gratitude to the European Union (EU) for partnering with Abia State and to NTU International for their dedication to the project’s success.
Earlier in his remark,the Commissioner for Power, Engr Ikechukwu Monday, highlighted that the project will not only provide reliable power supply to healthcare facilities but also support productive users around them.

He exposed that the project, funded 70% by the European Union and 30% by the state government, will improve healthcare services and make quality medical care more accessible to the people of Abia.
He thanked the Governor for promptly providing the counterpart fund and the EU for their significant contribution.
The Commissioner for Health, Prof Enoch Uche, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy, Engr Kachi Etolue, noted that the project demonstrates the government’s commitment to advancing economic development and improving access to healthcare. “Access to healthcare is a fundamental right, not a privilege,” they emphasized.
The event culminated in the inauguration of the Steering Committee for the Abia State-Nigeria Solar for Health Project, by the Governor.
