University Don Urges Lecturers to Demonstrate Fear of God in Their Profession – Nuelsnews

A university don, Prof. Christian Onyenweaku has urged lecturers to carry out their jobs responsibly and with the fear of God, knowing that they would give account of their stewardship to their Maker.

Onyenweaku gave the advice at the second valedictory lecture of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike on Wednesday.

The valedictory lecture was entitled, “I have fought a good fight, and I have finished the race: A retrospective look at my university career (1981- 2019).

The Professor of Agricultural Economics who officially retired from the services of the University System on Nov. 28, 2019, urged lecturers to desist from any act that would rubish the system.

According to him, he opted for retrospective look at his career in his valedictory lecture in order to give account of his stewardship in the university system in 39 years.

This he insisted, was to prove that he had really fought a good fight and finished the race.
He said, “The lecturers should emulate me because I normally ask people to emulate me in all the things I do.

“They should also have the fear of God in them because they are going to give account of all they have done here on Earth.”

He maintained that he had discharged all his assignments creditably in each semester as well as taught all his undergraduate and post graduate courses timely.

“Hardly did I miss classes, grading of scripts was according to the rules and release of results was also timely,” he said.
Onyenweaku expressed joy that he had an eventful and successful service at the course of his lecturing career which cut across four federal universities.

Prof. Jude Njoku, former Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) on the occasion lauded Onyenweaku for his immense contributions to academics.

Njoku, who was the chairman of the occasion, said that Onyenweaku was one of the foundation lecturers of Agricultural Economics Department at FUTO.

He described him as a very intelligent person who made First Class in his first degree and who had produced a lot of distinguished graduate and postgraduate students.

Prof. Francis Otunta, the Vice Chancellor of MOUAU, thanked Onyenweaku for his contributions to the university community and asked God to continue to strengthen him in all his endeavours.

Otunta, who was represented by his deputy (Academics), Prof. Maduemesi Iwe, congratulated him on the presentation of his titles.
He said that the university would continue to package valedictory lectures as her professors retire honourably.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of three books, two of which were written by Onyenweaku, while the third one was by the Department of Agricultural Economics of the university.
