Umuahia South Transition Chairman Charges Residents to Enrol on NIN- Nuelsnews

The Transition Chairman, Umuahia South Local Government Area Hon. Dr. Ndukwe Max Adindu has charged residents in his areas to enrol for the National Identification number (NIN)

Adindu made the call when he received the
Abia State Coordinator, Mr Loveday Chika Ogbonna, the Cluster Head Umuahia South, Mr John Iteogu on a courtesy visit to his office. The visit was furtherance to the need to sustain the collaborative effort by the LGAs in the state.

The state Coordinator, while thanking the LG Boss for the harmonious relationship and support extended to the commission, called for more collaboration with the Local Government leadership and stakeholders. According to Mr Ogbonna, “the benefits of the NIN cannot be overemphasized particularly in the area of providing assured and recognised means of identification for rural dwellers that ordinarily will not have any other means of ID”. The state coordinator emphasized that the NIN slip, not the card, is used to open Bank Account, join Cooperative Societies, access Loans, retrieve stolen or lost SIM cards, obtain Driver’s Licence, International Passport, Jamb and SME grant registrations etc. He went further to highlight to the Transition Chairman the economic and social benefits of getting his people enrolled into the National Identity database.

The Transition Chairman, Hon. Dr. Ndukwe Max Adindu in his response, decried the apathy by uninformed citizens in the South East towards the NIN registration exercise. While lamenting at the poor enrolment figures in the South East and Abia State particularly, he suggested to the team, the various ways in which the commission can capture all eligible citizens in Umuahia South.

Dr. Ndukwe acknowledged the need for government to make the environment conducive and convenient for an effective national identity enrolment exercise across the state and that this should be sustained irrespective of changes in government. He expressed his willingness to assist the commission in every way possible.

The State Coordinator, however, led the Transition Chairman to the Umuahia South Enrolment Centre where he was enrolled and instantly issued with his NIN number.
