As the strange death of people in Kano reaches alarming rate amid the Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic, the President Vision Africa International and Co-Chair Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace, Bishop, Dr Sunday Onuoha has called on the Federal government to take active steps and tell Nigerians the truth before the situation in Kano gets out of control.
The Executive Director, NIFAA, who made the plea in a statement issued on Sunday, said the disturbing stories emanating from Kano concerning the strange deaths of able bodied men and women calls for serious concern, adding that if nothing was done urgently, Kano could become the epicenter of the Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic, wondering why it has taken relevant bodies much time to accept the deaths.
The Global Peace Award Winner, 2013, said the strategic role Kano plays in our nation’s history cannot be overstated, stressing that if nothing was done to arrest the situation now we may live to regret it as Kano is very strategic to our national economy and must not be toyed with.
The Methodist Bishop, called on the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to be more alive to its responsibilities and respond to their emergency phone lines as has been alleged in some quarters that they do not take calls.
In the statement, Bishop, Dr.Onuoha also called for fervent prayers from Nigerians, noting that Kano is at the heart of Nigeria as any Pandemic will affect the whole nation, urging Nigerians to rise up and speak up against the mysterious deaths in the state.
Meanwhile, the Kano State government on Sunday in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba said the government is working hard towards keeping residents safe.
He said the government has been commended from within and outside the state over the proactive measures it has taken in checking the spread of COVID-19.
