PPF Set to Hold its Maiden Girls Summits in Abia, Aim at Finding Solution to Challenges Facing the Girl Child.

Protect The Precious Foundation will tomorrow Friday the 28th day of May, hold it’s first girls summit in Abia state, to find solution to challenges facing the girl child, at the Ekeala Event Centre, Ihie Ndume along Ikot Ekpene Road (Salvation Ministries), Umuahia.

The convener, Norah Okafor who made this known while speaking with newsmen in Umuahia, said that the summit was put together so that the girl child will be given direction on life, their sexuality, how to guard against sexual predators and uphold their integrity.

The event which is tagged “HEY GIRLS, CAN WE TALK”? is geared towards providing an opportunity for the girls to express themselves when they fall victim of any form of abuse and targeted at girls between the ages 12 to 20 as well as parents and guardians including those who have passion for the overall well-being of the girl child.

She said, the summit is a pragmatic response to the happenings around given the increasing rate of rape and the vulnerability of the girl child.

Okafor said that majority of children who are exposed to sexual abuse were abused  by a close family relation including fathers, uncles, brothers, male teachers etc.

She made it known that every year, millions of girls around the world face sexual abuse and exploitation. 

The convener stated that, “Sexual violence occurs everywhere, in every country and across all segments of society. A child may be subjected to sexual abuse or exploitation at home, at school or in their community.”

The programme is also on the sidelines of the International Menstrual Hygiene Day; a day set aside to talk on the need for girls to stay healthy, safe and clean during their monthly cycle”.

She called on parents and guardians to compel their girls are at the venue of the event, assuring them of maximum security as security agents will be on ground.
