Okonjo-Iweala Commends Ikpeazu for Road Construction in Isingwu Community – Nuelsnews

Former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has thanked Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu for providing the counterpart funding that enabled the construction of the Umuda-Ossah Road in Umuahia.

She gave the commendation at her Umuda-Isingwu Country Home while receiving a delegation of Isingwu Eze-in-Council, Isingwu Welfare Union and all Associations in Isingwu, Ohuhu, Umuahia North council area, Abia.

The visit was to thank her for the role she played in attracting the road to the community.

Okonjo-Iweala, who was a former Mananging Director at the World Bank said, “The road is wonderful.The construction is very good.I’m very proud of World Bank.

“The project was conceived during the time I was at the World Bank, to help the Southeastern states of Nigeria to take care of the erosion problems and my community was included in it.

“We also thank Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu for putting the counterpart funding that also enabled the work to be done.

“It’s a pride for the entire community.I don’t want to take sole credit for it.I’m also very happy that it came from the World Bank where I was associated for 25 years of my career.”

The former Minister of Foreign Affairs called for more of such partnerships and collaborations for the development of the state.

She expressed delight at the honour done her by the community in coming to pay her the thank you visit.

She urged the delegation to also thank her husband and a renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Ikemba Iweala, who always ensured they returned to the village every year wherever they were.

Okonjo-Iweala promised to continue to do whatever she could to assist the community while urging them to continue to be peaceful and progressive for the development of the community.

Earlier, Mr Onyenjoro Igwe, the President-General of Isingwu Welfare Union said they came to thank her and her husband for their immense contributions towards the welfare of the community.

“We are proud and happy to have you in our community.We also thank you for the people you gave employments,” he said.
