The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command, Commandant Usman I. Alfadarai, fdc, MFR, today received Major Mamtin Domkat, the newly appointed Acting Commanding Officer of the 145 Battalion (Rear) of the Nigerian Army, along with representatives from the Abia Partners for Peace in the Niger Delta on a Courtesy visit at the NSCDC State Headquarters in Umuahia, Abia State.
Coincidentally, both visits were aimed at strengthening the synergy and collaboration between the NSCDC, the Nigerian Army, and the peace-focused organization in the region.
The NSCDC PRO Doreen Udugwu noted during the visit that Major Domkat emphasized the critical need for inter-agency cooperation, mutual support, and intelligence sharing between the military and the NSCDC to ensure security and peace in the state. He highlighted how the existing synergy he met on ground between the Army and NSCDC has proven to be more efficient in operations that boarders on safeguarding lives and properties in the state and urged the State Commandant to maintain the tempo.
While responding, Commandant Alfadarai expressed his gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to a close working relationship with the Nigerian Army. He remarked, “This visit is a testament to the importance of inter-agency collaboration in maintaining law and order in Abia State. We will continue to work hand-in-hand to achieve a peaceful and secure environment.”
In a separate development, the Abia Partners for Peace in the Niger Delta also paid a courtesy visit to the Command, while addressing the Commandant, the secretary of the association Mrs Nna Nelly Nnenna, said they are in the Command to seek for partnership with the Corps to promote peace and conflict resolution in the region. She expressed the desire of the organization to work together with the Corps in promoting peaceful coexistence, particularly in conflict-prone areas in the state.
The State Commandant warmly welcomed the proposal. He acknowledged the need for collective action in maintaining peace and stability in the state. He noted, “Part of the mandates of the corps is peace and conflict resolution through alternative dispute resolution (ADR) which, according to him, is in line with the objectives of the peace-based association. He promised to collaborate with the NGO in promoting peace and resolving conflicts across the state.
Commandant Alfadarai was joined by senior officers of the Corps during both visits.
