The members of the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Medical Centre Umuahia have joined its National counterparts to embark on a total, indefinite strike.
According to a release signed yesterday by the President of the Association, Dr Onuh Emeka Felix, the strike is based on the demands as contained in the communique after a resolution was reached on the 2nd of September by the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Association of Residents Doctors(NARD).
The President stated that their demands include:
The provision of group life insurance for doctors and other health care workers and payment of death-in-service benefit to their next of kin/ beneficiaries.
Again, they demanded the Universal Implementation of the medical ResidencyTraining Act in all Federal and state hospital and ensure pay parity among doctors of equal cadre
Also amongst their demand is the immediate review of the hazard allowance of health care workers and payment of the Covid-19 inducement allowance as agreed during their meeting government officials and other stakeholders.
Dr. Onuh also asked for the immediate release of funds for medical ResidencyTraining for 2020 as captured in the revised 2020 appropriation bill.
Finally, he that the association demands payment of all owed arrears of the consequential adjustments of such in state tertiary health institutions.
Dr Onuh therefore, craved the indulgence of members of the public as they embark on the struggle and implore the federal government to do the needful and save the health sector from impending doom.
