The Abia State House of Assembly has inaugurated its 7th Assembly,
The inauguration which marks the beginning of the 7th Assembly, was presided over by the clerk of the House, Mr Pedro Ironkasi.
At the plenary, Chinedum Orji, Representating Umuahia Central state constituency was nominated for the position of the speaker while Ifeanyi Uchendu, Representating Ohafia State Constituency was nominated for Deputy Speaker.
And in a voice vote, both emerged Speakers and Deputy Speakers respectively.
This was followed by the taking of oath of allegiance of office by the elected officials as well as the elected members of the house.
The Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Chinedum Orji in his inaugural speech expressed gratitude to God for the honour to serve as the speaker of the 7th House.
Orji described it as a rare privilege and promised to do his best not to disappoint their trust on him.
He highlighted some pointers to his leadership to include vibrant and result oriented, committed to enactment of sound laws and legislation for the benefit of all Abians as well as providing strong oversight functions while aligning to the present administration’s objectives.
Again, Orji promised to run a transparent administration and protection, reservation and upholding of equity as already enshrined in the state.
The speaker performed his first assignment; which was the appointment of key positions.
Hon Solomon Akpulonu, representing Obingwa North as the Majority Leader, Paul Taribo, representing Ukwa West as the Deputy Majority leader, while Abraham Oba,(Aba Central), Minority leader, and Chukwu Chijioke member representing Bende North State Constituency as the Deputy Minority leader.
Also, Hon. Munachimso Alozie, Representing Ugwunagbo state constituency as the Chief Whip, and Chukwudi Apugo representing Umuahia East State Constituency as the Deputy Chief Whip were appointed respectively.
The appointments followed memos from the parties as sent to the house for confirmation.
The House through a voice vote moved to inform the Governor,Okezie Ikpeazu and the Chief Judge of the State, the Justice Onuoha Ogwe to duly inform them of the constitution of the 7th House.
The House adjourned plenary to 17th June, 2019 at 10am.
In attendance during rhw inauguration were former speakers of the House, The Deputy Govenor of Abia State, Sir. Ude Okochukwu, Rt Hon.Alwell Asiforo and Christopher Enweremadu as well as other former members were part of the inauguration.
