Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced plans to revive the moribund Aba Textile Mill and Star Paper Mill to create jobs for the people. Speaking at a reception hosted by the Union of Anambra State Associations, Aba Branch, Governor Otti disclosed that his government will partner with relevant stakeholders to train young people in various Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to make Aba a hub for fabric, textiles, and leather products.
The Governor revealed that his administration is negotiating with the current owners of the Aba Textile Mill to return it to life. Additionally, they are working with the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) to acquire the Star Paper Mill and revive its operations. Governor Otti emphasized that these industries were set up by visionary forefathers, and it’s a challenge to restore them to their former glory.

Responding to a request to re-engage 154 Anambra indigenes disengaged from the Abia State public service in 2011, Governor Otti said he would consider a fair resolution. He noted that most of those disengaged were teachers and proposed re-engaging them on a contract basis if they are under 65 years old. The Governor emphasized that his administration does not recognize state of origin and believes that anyone living and paying taxes in Abia is considered a resident.
The Governor’s proposal to re-engage the disengaged civil servants is not limited to Anambra indigenes, as he mentioned that some people from Imo and other states in the Southeast may have been affected. He stated that his administration is trying to redress the wrongs of the past and ensure that everyone is treated fairly.

Governor Otti also announced plans to develop the Enyimba Hotel and surrounding areas, including the construction of a five-star Radisson Blue hotel, an international convention center, and a leisure and pleasure park. He thanked the Anambra people for their support since 2023 and emphasized that his administration prioritizes the well-being of all residents, regardless of their state of origin.
The Anambra community has expressed appreciation for Governor Otti’s governance style and achievements. They commended his decision to revitalize moribund industries in Aba and praised his infrastructural development initiatives. The community’s leaders, including the President General of the Anambra State Unions Association, Aba Branch, Chief Obiora Nwakpadolo, and Hon. Stephen Ucheonye, member representing Aba Central State Constituency, thanked the Governor for his efforts.

The Governor’s plans to develop the Enyimba Hotel and surrounding areas are expected to boost economic growth and create employment opportunities for residents. The construction of the Radisson Blue hotel, international convention center, and leisure and pleasure park will provide a much-needed boost to the state’s tourism industry.
In conclusion, Governor Otti’s initiatives demonstrate his commitment to the development of Abia State and the well-being of its residents. His administration’s efforts to revitalize industries, re-engage non-indigene civil servants, and develop infrastructure are expected to have a positive impact on the state’s economy and quality of life. The Governor’s vision for Abia State is one of growth, development, and prosperity for all residents, regardless of their state of origin.
