Worried by the inhumane treatment meted out to the #EndSARS protesters, the President Vision Africa International International and Co-Chair Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace, Bishop Dr. Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha, has called on governments in the 36 states of the Federation to guide against anarchy.
The Global Peace Award Winner 2013, who said he was heartbroken and devastated watching the youth who are the hope of the country being subjected to various degrees of humiliation because they want to chart a new course, advised that the already tensed situation may turn into anger and frustration while the country will slide into anarchy.
The Methodist Bishop, who made the call on Thursday in a statement issued to newsmen, said, “When someone is fighting for a genuine course, it is wrong to beat the person and same time tell the person not to cry whereas he has been coerced for too long”.
He decried the level of debasement the youth have been subjected to over time but more pronounced during this #EndSARS protest while reminding authorities in the country that the youth are asking for justice having seen their inalienable rights compromised by the men of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Bishop Dr. Onuoha, added that it was wrong to detain peaceful protesters and cautioned the government against the actions. He advised that the campaign is now a global affair as celebrities and countries are supporting the call for #EndSARS brutality, calling on the government to come clean on this, to avoid lowering themselves in the eyes of the International community.
He equally warned the protesters against taking the laws into their hands and enjoined them to carry out their protests in an orderly manner and not cause a breach of peace in the country just as he expressed optimism that the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, will address various concerns raised by the protesters.
