The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised passengers to allow drivers to concentrate during the ’ember’ months to avert accidents on the roads.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Abia, Meshach Jatau gave the warning in an interview with newsmen in Umuahia.
The sector commander said that there was no blood-sucking demons on the expressways especially in ’ember’ months, except that accidents were caused mostly by human errors.
He said that most passengers were usually so anxious to meet their expectations during the period that they put pressure on the driver’s to drive beyond the limits.
He said, “Some of these passengers distract the drivers by telling them to go too fast because they believe they are not fast enough.
“They also distract drivers with stories when they are supposed to observe and caution them against any over-speeding of recklessness.”
Jatau also cautioned motorists to be patient and apply the road safety rules during the period in order avert imminent accidents.
However, he said that the FRSC has mapped out activities to check the excesses of drivers in the ’ember’ months.
According to him, some of the activities include drawing of government’s attention to the black spots on the roads, public enlightenment and deployment of personnel to the expressways.
