As the nation awaits the easing of the lockdown imposed by the federal government to check the spread of the Coronavirus COVID-19 Pandemic, FG has been reminded that freedom kills hence the need to tread carefully before easing the lockdown.
The Co-Chair Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace, Bishop,Dr Sunday Onuoha who gave the advice on the heels of the easing of the lockdown from Monday, May 4, also lent his voice to those calling on the government not to announce the easing of the lockdown as the country still records new cases of the Coronavirus.
The Global Peace Award Winner 2013 and Executive Director NIFAA who acknowledged that freedom is one of the inalienable rights of an individual as embedded in the 1999 constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria, advised the Federal government to reconsider easing the lockdown as it will expose Nigerians to the pangs of the Coronavirus.
Bishop, Dr Onuoha, urged federal government to observe the situation in the next few days to see if there will be new cases, arguing that it is risky to ease the lockdown considering the high number of cases recorded last night as released on the official twitter handle of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), calling on FG to seek the best medical advice before exposing her citizenry to danger.
The Methodist Bishop who also charged Nigerians to continue adhering to the safety measures as outlined by the government and the World Health Organisation (WHO), also reminded them that freedom is unmatchable, adding that in the present condition, they need to exercise their freedom while taking into cognizance that the pandemic is still ravaging states in the country as well as around the globe.
