Corps Members, EFCC Walk Against Corruption in Abia- Nuelsnews


Over 500 youths on Friday took to the major streets in Umuahia, Abia capital, to sensitise the public against the ills of corruption in the society.

The programme tagged “One Million March Against Corruption” was organised by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The walk which took off from the NYSC secretariat in Umuahia, had the corps members sharing fliers and carrying placards with varoius inscriptions on issues of corruption.

Some of the inscriptions read this: “Expose them, do not shield corrupt persons,” Yahoo Plus = Jail Plus, shun it,” Nigerian Youths Say No to Corruption.Corruption kills: Let’s kill corruption.”

Speaking to newsmen, the Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magun said that the programme being held simultanously nation-wide was the first of its kind in the fight against corruption.

Magun, who was represented by Williams Agbarakwe (CSP) of the Bank Fraud Station, EFCC, said that it was designed to galvanise the Nigerian youths to resist and fight corruption in whatever form it manifested.

He urged the youths to shun criminality and strive to wrestle the country from the grips of the corrupt.

According to him, the youths should take ownership of the anti-graft war.

Mrs Bona Fasakin, NYSC Coordinator in Abia said that it was very important that the youths joined the campaign against corruption because it was about their future.

She said,” The youths are the future leaders of this country and this country belongs to them.

“If they have a country that is full of corruption how will their future be like?

She commended the Federal Goverment for its initiative in the fight against corruption, sayiing “corruption can kill a country.”
