The Abia State House of Assembly has been advised to make laws capable of enhancing the revenue base of the state.
The Federal Commissioner representing Abia state in the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Abuja, Dr Chris Akomas gave the advise while addressing members of the seventh house during plenary.
He called on the house to make relevant legislations to enable the state to develop the solid mineral and agricultural sectors of the economy to boost internally generated revenue which would be channelled into the development of the state.
Dr Akomas explained that that the commission was responsible in the mobilization and disbursement of allocation as well as reviewing of revenue allocation formula noting that it is currently working on revenue formula review and thanked stakeholders in the state for supporting his appointment into the commission.
In a remark, the speaker, Chief Chinedum Orji noted that the essence of inviting the commissioner to interface with the house was to ensure effective collaboration and pleaded with him to ensure that the state gets what is due to it from the commission.
Correspondent Uzoma Nwankwo reports that the house has passed the Abia State Violence Against Persons Prohibition Bill, 2019 into law and it came into force on 4th of December,2019.
