Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced plans to acquire the Umuahia ring-fenced area of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to provide steady power to the remaining eight local government areas not covered by Geometric Power.
The Governor made this announcement during a reception hosted by Geometric Power’s management after the commissioning of Aba Power’s new 2 x 15 MVA Ogbor Hill Sub-Station by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Governor Otti directed the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities to discuss wheeling excess power to the Umuahia ring-fenced area with Geometric Power’s management.
The Commissioner raised the Key Points which includes,
- The Abia State Government has completed due diligence and evaluation for the acquisition of EEDC’s Umuahia ring-fenced area.
- An offer will be made to EEDC.
- Geometric Power is expected to supply excess power to the Umuahia ring-fenced area once the acquisition is complete.
- The excess power is estimated to be over 80 megawatts.
Support from Former President Obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo praised Governor Otti’s leadership style and urged Professor Bart Nnaji, Chairman and CEO of Geometric Power Group, to extend the electricity ring-fenced area to the remaining eight local government areas in the state.

Professor Nnaji highlighted the vision of the Aba Integrated Power Project and thanked Governor Otti for his support. He disclosed that the project has cost over $800 million.
The event was attended by senior government officials, mayors, and members of the State House of Assembly. The acquisition of EEDC’s Umuahia ring-fenced area is expected to improve power supply in the state.
