Mrs Bona Fasakin, the State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has charged corps members to consolidate on the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme of the NYSC to become enterprenuers.
Fasakin gave the charge during the SAED programme exhibition and inter-platoons skill competition by 2019 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at NYSC orientation camp, Umunna, Bende council area.
“I advise you to be serious about this SAED programme because if even you have a paid job, skill acquisition is important to you in life,” she said.
She said that SAED was one of the innovations of NYSC which was created to fight unemployment problem in the country.
Mr Friday Ikpoha, the Acting Chairman, NYSC Governing Council in Abia, expressed happiness with the presentations by corps members on the SAED programme.
“With what I have seen today, it means that these young Nigerians can come into camp and devote themselves to learning.
“You have embraced the entrepreneurial spirit of Abia.No matter your level of education, learn skills so that you can feed yourself and others,” advised Ikpoha, who is the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, Abia.
Mr Alloysius Okonkwo, the SAED Monitor and Asst. Director, Ventures Department, National Directorate Headquatres, NYSC charged the corps members to be focused and take the programme seriously.
According to him, a corps member can get as much as N10 million loan if he or she applies himself or herself properly and follow the processes.
The SAED Assistant Director, Ven. Sam Njoku, congratulated the corps members for being able to put up wonderful performances within 10 days of training.
A corps member, Miss Uche Ibiam said that she was so excited to have acquired skill in leather works within a short period of time.
Platoon 1 emerged the overall winner of the 10 platoons that participated in the various categories of the skills competition such as decoration, make-up, bead-making, photography, bridal accessories and public speaking.
Highlight of the event was the exhibition of products produced by the corps members during the SAED training.
Some of the products displayed included: beads, cosmetics, agro-allied, construction, paint-making, leather works, confectionery among others.
