The Member representing Umunneochi State Constituency Hon. Mathias Umeh Nwachi, has reeled out his achievements within his one year in office, sets up committee as promised during his campaign to ensure the allowance for the development of the constituency is well utilized.
Nwachi, stated that despite the high expectations from his constituents, the greatest challenge he took on his shoulders upon inauguration was his first motion on security challenges ravaging Umunneochi which led the State Governor Dr. Alex Otti establishing ‘operation crush’ which he said has yielded tremendous peaceful atmosphere in the area.
The Lawmaker stated this while briefing Journalists in Umuahia on achievements of his one year in office at the 8th Assembly inaugurated on the 14th June, 2023.
He further stated that he also presented a security bill which is still at the committee stage to establish “Abia Corps” which when passed would collaborate with all other Security outfits in the State to get rid of criminals and hoodlums out of the forest in the State.
He added that he has moved for the rehabilitation of roads in Umunneochi which he followed up after the resolution of the House to the ministry of works to ensure that the project commenced exactly two weeks after the motion was made and also presented a bill on formation of vocational school in Abia State which has undergone its first reading.
Nwachi, who however expressed displeasure why people in Nigeria are yet to come to terms of the true constitutional functions of a legislature which is primarily to make laws and moves motions in favour of their constituents, regretted that it’s unfortunate that people would expect lawmakers to perform the functions of the executive even with their meager salaries.
Furthermore, Hon. Nwachi revealed that in addition to his Legislative and oversight duties says he has engaged in many activities aimed at creating positive impacts for his constituents which includes: 1.Registration of both Junior and Senior School Certificate Examination to indigent families in his constituency. 2. Four years tuition fees to all students of Peace Comprehensive Secondary School Isuochi. 3. A one hundred thousand Bursary Scheme award to fifty Undergraduate across his constituency for 2024 with the intention of increase in the coming year as well as the amount.
In conclusion, The lawmaker said he has inaugurated a-17-man committee to oversee his constituency allowance as promised during his campaign to ensure that the money is well utilized for the betterment of his constituency.
