Abia Guber 2023: Prof Ikonne Wins PDP Primaries.
The immediate past Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu. Prof. Uche Eleazar Ikonne has polled a total of 468 votes to obtain the ticket of the People’s Democratic Party ahead of the 2023 Governorship elections.
Prof. Ikonne defeated his closest rival Lucky Igbokwe who polled 45 Votes and Ezenwanyi Ngozi Jonah who got 5 votes.
Announcing the results at the Umuahia Township Stadium,Venue of the Primaries, the Returning Officer of the PDP and Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose said of the 700 ballots, a total of 554 votes were cast, while 146 were untouched.
According to him, “Prof. Ikonne having satisfied all the criteria of the party, is hereby declared the winner and lawful flag bearer of the PDP in the 2023 elections in Abia State”.
The Winner of the primaries, Prof. Uche Ikonne who was full of smiles and elated at the outcome of the election thanked God, the leadership of the party led by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for what he described as a seamless process while noting that his win is a proof that God’s will still prevails.
He revealed that the yearnings of Abians for massive infrastructural development, women empowerment, and human capital development will be the main focus of his administration as he climbs the ladder of leadership in the state.
The PDP flag bearer expressed optimism of winning the general elections in 2023 under his party.
Recall that seven of the gubernatorial aspirants including the Deputy Governor, Rt.Hon.Sir. Ude Okochukwu, Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Enynnaya Nwafor, Ncheta Omerekpa, Chima Anyaso, Samson Orji and Emma Nwaka withdrew from contesting the primaries of the PDP earlier today citing impunity and imposition of what they called imaginary 3 man adhoc delegates as reasons.
