Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has expressed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s economic decisions, citing their long-standing friendship and shared views on economic issues.
Governor Otti made this statement during a visit by former Abia Governor and Senator, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, who praised the governor’s efforts in improving the state’s infrastructure.
Governor Otti emphasized that he has always advocated for the removal of fuel subsidy, which he described as a scam, adding that the correction process would be tough and painful but necessary for the country’s growth. “We have behaved in an irresponsible manner for a very long time, and when you have years of irresponsible behavior, the correction would be tough, difficult, and painful,” he said.
The governor also dismissed speculations about the 2027 presidency, saying that it’s premature to talk about it when the current challenges are yet to be addressed. “Today is certain; tomorrow is a promise. Next tomorrow is gambling. Let us talk about today; when tomorrow comes, and we are lucky to be part of it, we can hold the discussion,” he stated.
Dr. Otti highlighted his administration’s efforts in improving the state’s infrastructure, particularly in Aba, where businesses are thriving due to the good roads. He revealed that a resident of Aba donated N200 million to support the state’s road construction projects.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu praised Governor Otti’s efforts, saying that the state is growing under his leadership, commended the governor’s road construction projects, particularly the Umuahia-Igbere road, which has reduced travel time from three hours to less than an hour.
Senator Chris Adighije also expressed his support for Governor Otti, saying that the governor is doing extremely well for the state. Both senators urged Governor Otti to maintain a close relationship with President Tinubu.
In response, Governor Otti thanked the senators for their visit and support, reaffirming his commitment to working for the people of Abia State while emphasizing that his administration is focused on fixing the state’s infrastructure and promoting economic growth.
