The Abia State Government has been urged as a matter of urgency to comply with its own part of agreement to enable the construction of the proposed Inland Container Depot in Ntigha, Isialangwa North Local Government Area of the state.
This followed a matter of urgent public importance raised by Member Representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency Hon. Ginger Onwusibe during the plenary of the Abia State House of Assembly.
The house also persuaded the State Government to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Transport to ensure the take off of the project.
Earlier in his presentation at the floor of the House, Hon. Onwusibe noted that the Federal Executive Council in 2006 approved the establishment of a dry pot in the state but regretted that till now, construction was yet to commence on the site.
The lawmaker, mentioned some of the benefits of the project when realized to include provision of employment opportunities, noted that investigation revealed that the state government was yet to carryout its own part of the agreement as regards the construction.
Supporting the motion, the Member Representing, Umuahia South Constituency, Hon. Jerry Uzosike and Member Representing Ohafia North, Hon. Egwuronu Obasi also known as Mandela called for urgent measures to be taken to commence construction, as the project when completed would also boost the revenue base of the state.
