ABIA CENTRAL STUDENTS ENDORSE BISHOP SUNDAY ONUOHA FOR GOVERNOR OF ABIA STATE.

Members of the Abia Central Students Association of Nigeria/Youths Movement came out in their numbers today Monday to endorse the governorship bid of Bishop Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha for Abia State, under the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The students were received by the deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Lady Glory Ngozi Nwasimuo, on behalf of Bishop Dr Sunday Onuoha who was out of town. Present also to receive the student group from Abia Central were Dr Uduma Nnate, Director General of the Abia North project, Rev Okeiyi, Zonal Publicity Secretary of ADC, Mr Godwill Egu, a member of Dr Onuoha’s Media Team. The endorsement took place at Bishop Onuoha’s office at Vision Africa International, Umuahia.

Speaking at the occasion, the National President of the Abia Central Students Association, Comrade Geoffrey Ifeanyichukwu, affirmed his group’s resolve to stand by the Abia Charter of Equity which is based on the rotation of power among the existing three senatorial zones. The group comprising students across Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Ikwuano, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, and Osisioma Ngwa Local government areas, said that the rotation of power favoured Abia North for 2023 to produce the next governor. Continuing, Comrade Ifeanyichukwu said that his group had, after a careful check on the candidates from Abia North elected to endorse Bishop Dr Sunday Onuoha. The group reeled out a number of credentials of the bishop that guided their choice of him. Among those credentials included his impeccable educational attainments, and his leadership experience based on positions he held in government, the church, ecumenical Christian bodies, Youth groups, and international bodies. The Student leader talked about his investments in Abia, including Vision Africa Radio which he said had employed over hundred persons from Abia Central zone. According to the students, they considered the various youth empowerment and skills development training that Bishop Onuoha had continued to organize to equip the youths of Abia. The students noted that no fewer than 500 persons had benefited from the training and skills acquisition programmes of Bishop Onuoha. Going further, Mr Geoffrey Ifeanyichukwu enumerated the leadership roles of Bishop Onuoha as Special Assistant (SA) to the former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, on privatization and later on port reforms, his roles in inter-faith peacebuilding, a non-governmental organization in Nigeria and Africa at large. They talked about his vast international relationships and connections which could be deployed to the overall benefits of Abia State, among others.

In the words of the students, “this time around, we the Abia Central Students Association/Youths Movement, and the entire Abia Students are solidly behind you. We have tested your credibility and have decided that this time what Abians need is a man of goodwill and integrity, who can move the State forward.”

Other students who spoke on the occasion included, Mr Kelechi Onuigbo, representing Ikwuano, Comrade; Nkechi Nwachukwu, representing Isiala Ngwa North.

Responding on behalf of the governorship candidate, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, his running mate, Hon. Lady Glory Ngozi Nwasimuo thanked the students for their position on the matter of who governs the state in the next dispensation. She commended their choice of Bishop Dr Sunday Onuoha as good and thoughtful. Lady Nwasimuo remarked that Abia people had long lived in bondage under bad leadership. Lady Nwasimuo observes that the State virtually lacked everything. She said that in every parameter of development, Abia lagged behind. According to the deputy governorship candidate, things had fallen apart in Abia State and needed to be mended quickly. Hon. Lady Nwasimuo told the students that it behoved them and all youths in Abia to take action to liberate the State from bondage and recover it from its captors. Mrs Nwasimuo urged the students that it was time to change the ugly narratives of Abia State. She told them to ensure that godfatherism was ended in the state by rejecting a candidate known to be a stooge of the present government. The deputy governorship candidate advance used the visiting students to go back and sensitize their friends, neighbours, family members, parents, and everyone they could reach home, school, church, and community to vote for Bishop Dr Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha for the liberation of Abia State and the rebuilding of its broken infrastructure.

Also thanking and commending the courageous step taken by the students, Dr Uduma Nnate, the DG of Abia North Project, urged the students to spread the good news of Bishop Sunday Onuoha as God sent a leader at this time to redeem the state from bad governance. Dr Nnate told the students that a combination of Bishop Onuoha and Hon. Lady Glory Nwasimuo as Christian leaders in their individual standings would amount to good and productive governance.
