Abia Assembly Summons EEDC Over Poor Services – Nuelsnews

The Abia State House of Assembly has passed a resolution inviting the regional manager of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company and the representative of the National Electricity Regulatory Commission in the state to discuss poor services of EEDC in the state.

This followed a Matter of Urgent Public Importance brought before the House by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji on the poor and shoddy operations of EEDC in the state with the prayers that.
1. That the house do urged the EEDC to review its billing system downwards pending the supply to prepaid meter to individuals and business entities.
2. The the house do urged the EEDC to commence the distribution of free prepaid meter to consumers as directed by the federal government.
3. That the house as a.matter of urgency pass iinto law HAB 12: the Abia State Electic Power Authority and Power Station Bill.
4. That the State should.look into alternative power supply for the state.
5. Condemned the use of estimated bill in its entirety.
6to.commencr repair of the broken and faulty equipment especially the transformers.
Finally that the house do invite the regional manager of EEDC it it’s executive session for interaction with the view of finding a lasting solution to the menace.
which received an overwhelming support of members.

The House while condemning the use of estimated billing system by the distribution company, called on them to commence the repairs and replacement of their faulty equipments especially transformers and poles while making a case for the state to look for alternative power supply for residence of the state.

The House also passed a resolution urging the Governor to direct his Special Adviser on Security Matters to immediately retreave all government number plates currently in the hands of those whom they are not officially assigned and stop forthwith the use of such by unauthorized persons.

The Clerk of the house, Mr John-Pedro Irokansi

The state lawmakers also mandated the Clerk of the House to within two weeks retreave all official number plates of the House that are in unofficial hands.

This also followed a motion by the member representing Umuahia North State constituency, Chief Kelechi Onuzuruike on the need to prohibit the indescriminate use and duplication of government number plates in the state. With the prayers that the house do mandate the State government to prohibit the indiscriminate use and duplication of government plate number in the state.
That the house do mandates state government through its relevant agencies to identify unauthorised users of government plate numbers with a view of retrieving same from them
Finally, that the house do mandate te clerk in liaison with security operatives in the state to retrieve Abia State House of Assembly plate number from their unauthorised users inn the state.

The House however, passed for second reading HAB 39: The Abia State Fund Management Bill 2021 and HAB 40: The Abia State Account Allocation Committee Bill 2021 and Committed both to the committee of the whole for further legislative action.

The House went further to commit to its Committee on Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs the petition from Eze Obioha Ugorji and his Ovim autonomous community in Isuikwuato LGA on the eroniouse delisting of their autonomous community in the Abia State Local Government amendment laws of 2018, calling for its reinstatement and that of Chief Sylvanus Okpara and others from Uru- Lokpaukwu autonomous community of Umunneochi LGA on the Eze-stool plebiscite of their community where they are urging the House to intervene to ensure it is conducted peacefully and in their community.

The house however, adjourned the plenary to reconvene sitting on the 28th of this month by 10am.
