Summons Commissioner for works.

The Abia State House of Assembly has as a matter of urgency mandated concerned agencies of the State government to carryout palliative work forthwith on the Umuahia-Ikot-Ekpene road as directed by the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.

This followed a matter of urgent public importance raised by member representing Ikwuano State Constituency, Hon. Stanley Nwabuisi, during the plenary of Wednesday 6th October 2021.

The House equally summoned the State Commissioner for Works to appear before her with a view to intimate them on the Ministry’s plans to manage the situation.

The resolution further mandated the House Committee on works to carryout an oversight function immediately to ascertain the extent of damage on the road.

Meanwhile, students of Michael Okpara University Umudike and residents of Ikwuano were urged to remain calm and go about their normal businesses while waiting for the Abia State government and Federal Road Maintenance Agency to do the needful as promised by the state government.

Earlier, Hon. Nwabuisi had reported to the House during plenary that the deplorable state of the Umuahia-Ikot-Ekpene road had hindered economic activities in the Ikwuano axis.

He added that the same road condition had equally led to several deaths of many with latest being a final year student of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management at Michael Okpara University.

The lawmaker, therefore, enjoined the State House of Assembly to take proactive measures urgently to address the groaning of his constituents regardless of the fact that it’s a federal highway.
